SCAMP wishes to appoint an experienced ecologist surveyor to carry out a pilot study of multi-scale remote sensing for detection and mapping of priority INNS species along the Scottish Solway Coast. We expect this to be undertaken via a mixture of drone survey and satellite imagery, utilising a form of AI to speed up the assessment process.

Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS) are one of the key pressures on the biodiversity of the Solway coastline. Monitoring and mapping of INNS populations is critical to understand the region-wide coverage and scale. This pilot study will integrate satellite analysis, targeted drone surveys and machine learning to identify and quantify Japanese knotweed (Fallopia japonica) and Himalayan balsam (Impatiens gladulifera) across priority sites during peak flowering periods.

The pilot study will form part of Phase 1 Development of SCAMP, and the results will be used to support the delivery stage application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

We offer up to £15,000 inclusive of all expenses but exclusive of VAT.
