Oysters were once abundant in many parts of Solway, but overfishing destroyed and fragmented the beds in the 1800s. One of SCAMP’s ambitions is to start the long process of re-establishing some of these historic reefs.

There seems to be a debate about the use or otherwise of hatcheries to help establish new reefs, we want to delve into this subject, in the context of the Solway. Is this something we should invest in or are we better using natural production. We would like to know with a comprehensive literature review leading to recommendations for the best way forward!
If you think you can help please read the ITQ Specification document below and send a note to SCAMP@dumgal.gov.uk to ask for a tender pack.
The deadline for submissions is 12 noon on the 1st of June 2026.
