Dumfries & Galloway Woodlands (DGW) has been kicking off work to better understand our region’s coastal woodlands, and how the next ten years of the Solway Coast & Marine Landscape Connections Project (SCAMP) can support coastal woodlands themselves, and the wider region.
To increase bandwidth and activity, DGW has let three development contracts. On 16th February, the three selected contractors met each other and the DGW team to kick off work in the coming months.
Research Consolidation: Pulling together recent research on Coastal Woodlands, published and under development, identifying recent findings and research gaps for future consideration.
Seed Growing + Tree Growing: Exploring the potential for SCAMP to support local seed collection and tree growing networks locally
Skills & Products: How can SCAMP support people that use and products that come from our coastal woodlands – from artisan and craft skills through to new technology and approaches.
These three contracts are now underway, with results being published in coming months.

The SCAMP project has the potential to be a really big deal for coastal woodlands in our region, and the connected local economy. These contracts massively increase our capacity and expertise to make sure we approach the SCAMP opportunities with ambition, making best use of experience elsewhere.

The work is possible thanks to the support of the SCAMP Project, itself funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
